Chances of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 from James Gunn With Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon are Now Zero After Recent Disney Update

James Gunn introduced audiences to the unlikely rag-tag team of misfits with the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, which has now become a beloved trilogy. Gunn infused his usual charm and humor with the franchise and rooted it with emotional character arcs. The director went out with a bang with the third Guardians film, providing a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.

After directing the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, James Gunn has now shifted gears and is now the co-CEO of DC Studios. He is directing the first film of the new DCU Superman: Legacy and is also deeply involved in the development of various upcoming DC projects moving forward.

Some fans have been wondering whether Gunn would ever come back for a possible fourth Guardians film (led by Bradley Cooper‘s Rocket Racoon) or a brand new story. This question was posed to the director by a fan on Threads. However, the director made it clear that he is now fully committed to building the new DC as he said, “No, I’m pure DC.”

Another fan asked whether he could write and work under Marvel Studios again, to which Gunn replied, “I could not either physically or legally.” It seems the director signed a contract with WB that his focus will be purely on DC, and he can not work with other studios. This means that Gunn will not be involved with a potential fourth Guardians film or anything to do with Marvel anymore.

Gunn has already mentioned many times that he has achieved whatever he wanted to do with the character arcs in the Guardians’ films with the trilogy. Thus, there is no point in bringing him back for another film that will feel like cash grab. Fans should instead focus their attention on the upcoming exciting new endeavors he has to offer in the DCU.

James Gunn‘s new DCU is set to introduce a new Batman with his son Damian Wayne in Batman: Brave and the Bold. Recently, many rumors started circulating that the casting process for the new Batman is underway.

However, Gunn denied those rumors and clarified that a script hasn’t even been written yet. The director gave this statement on Threads when asked by a fan about the casting process for Batman. He said.

“Keep getting this question, don’t know where it’s coming from, but wherever it is, it’s totally false. We don’t have a script yet.”

It seems fans have to wait for a while for the project to gain momentum as Gunn has other projects he is giving more emphasis to at the moment. In 2024, Gunn has Creature Commandoes, which will be released in late 2024 on Max. He is also set to start shooting Superman: Legacy in March, which will be released on July 11, 2025 .
